Position Overview

A nonprofit animal welfare organization in North Miami Beach is seeking a compassionate and dependable Animal Care Specialist to provide daily care and support for animals in a safe, clean, and caring environment.

The ideal candidate is passionate about animal welfare, comfortable working hands-on with animals, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide daily care, feeding, watering, and monitoring of animals.
• Clean and maintain animal kennels, cages, habitats, and common areas.
• Safely handle and restrain animals as needed.
• Monitor animals for changes in behavior, appetite, appearance, or overall condition.
• Assist with basic animal health and wellness procedures.
• Assist with bathing, grooming, enrichment, and exercise activities.
• Support the safe movement and transportation of animals when needed.
• Follow established sanitation, safety, and animal-handling procedures.
• Provide compassionate care and help create a positive environment for animals awaiting adoption or placement.
• Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and other animal care professionals.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with animals strongly preferred.
• Animal shelter, veterinary, kennel, boarding, grooming, or animal care experience is a plus.
• Comfortable handling dogs, cats, and other domestic animals.
• Ability to safely lift and handle animals and perform physically demanding duties.
• Must be comfortable working around animal hair, odors, cleaning products, and bodily fluids.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
• Dependable, compassionate, patient, and team-oriented.
• Must be available to work Saturdays.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
